We Will Rock You

Posted 29/04/08 1:24 by fang under Life, Unused.

Upon news that the student rate for We Will Rock You last Thursday from favourite gay buddy Tan Chong Min was at an incredibly low price of $50 (CAT 1 seats mind you!) I simply had to go for the darn musical. Haha.

But calling it a musical is pretty much a farce. It was a sorry excuse for a musical, but then again it was damn happening as a rock concert! Haha. After the intermission especially, all sense of plot was thrown away, and the cast went all campy with lots of brainless humour. Everyone was just waiting for some stupid line to turn into an excuse to start singing a Queen number! I was in the Circle seats, and well a bit sad that I wasn’t in the stall where everybody were on their feet for the last half an hour just enjoying themselves. Next to me was this really big angmoh who just sat rooted in the seat haha. Kind of a let down. Haha.

So yep! Really good value for money, great music, and even better company! =)

The MSK Scandal

Posted 22/04/08 0:25 by fang under Commentary.

So the details on how Mas Selamat escaped from his detention centre are finally out, and boy are they damning. That the two guards failed in keeping an eye on the prisoner was not exactly shocking (although we do have to note that these two guards were from the esteemed Gurkha Contingent and not just an NSF guard thinking about his next book out.) What was shocking was the comically simple way that he managed to escape the compounds! Escaping through the toilet ventilation window is the stuff of movies, and I have no idea how the compound superintendent could come up with the absolutely senseless thought that sawing off the handles of the windows would prove sufficient as a security measure.

This security lapse in WRDC came as a rude and painful shock to them; all the more when the mistakes have turned out to be so simple as to appear silly and incredible.

Complacency creeps into every single organisation. And no matter how lofty the organisation’s goals are and how willing they are to commit towards perfection, imperfections always exist. There are no such things as perfect internal controls — only lapses that have not been uncovered. And that’s exactly what happened to the ISD. Heads will roll, internal controls tightened, and more political assurances that such mistakes will not happen again. Fair enough. But the question still remains.

Where is Mas Selamat bin Kastari?

Life’s a Joke

The world is your stage. The people are the audience. And you’re the clown.

Yep, just another one of those days I guess.

The Thrillogy

Posted 9/04/08 13:24 by fang under Liverpool.

I agree with the many Reds on the RAWK forum — Last night’s match was the most exciting Liverpool match since Istanbul. And the sheer magnitude of the match meant it edges even the West Ham FA Cup Final.

Not that Liverpool was playing particularly well. In fact, for the first ten minutes, Arsenal were awesome. Breath-taking. And them taking the lead seemed inevitable. I’m sure it got every Red shocked lah. But well, Sami Hyypia (I thought it was Kuyt at first due to the shaggy hair and poor quality of streaming) completely lost Senderos (with a cut that wouldn’t be out of place in Ultimate) to head a corner into goal.

The equaliser always gave us an assurance that this would be our day. But the performance in the first half was pretty bad. The defence was desperate defending at its best (our hallmark) but further up in midfield Gerrard was anonymous (he was right, one of his worst performances in a Liverpool jersey) while Kuyt was out of place in right midfield. Mascherano seemed lost.

And so Liverpool won today through 1) the sheer brilliance and form of Crouch and Torres, and 2) Benitez won the battle of wits over the three games. Okay, let me add Senderos into the equation, haha. Torres scored because no one closed him down as he turned to shoot. Kind of like Winning Eleven where you can score from anywhere as long as your striker is in the right position. Arsenal then scored a jaw-dropping goal from a really, really quick counter-attack by Theo Walcott and co., and when you thought all was lost Babel got us a penalty. Damn drama lah! But Babel’s goal summed it up over the three matches — Benitez got it right. It was a damn sad sight, but Fabregas didn’t lose out to Babel because of pace — he lost out on energy.

Ultimately, the Liverpool team never ever looked tired. And in matches as important as this, I guess how fresh you are at the closing stages of the game can decide everything.

I Wonder Why I Blog

Posted 8/04/08 1:34 by fang under Random, Site.

Let’s see. Primary reasons why I got my own domain:

  1. Like, how cool is that?!
  2. Online platform to design
  3. Like, how cool is that!?
  4. Own the nicest looking blog in SMU
  5. Like, how cool is that?!

Note: primary reasons. And yeah, I don’t design on an active basis any more, I don’t really care about having the nicest looking blog (without much of a content what’s the point?) And then we look at the secondary reasons, and it leads us nowhere too. This site does not make money at all (bloody hell;) hasn’t got me any girls; I rant but I much prefer ranting to physical beings; I have probably not produced anything that is remotely interesting to the casual viewer; for everything in life Facebook seems to to do the job. On a side note, I do attract my fair share of google hits. Mostly searching for porn.

But damn it. iaskedmygirl.com. My own domain. How effing cool is that?

Your Smiling Face

Posted 7/04/08 3:03 by fang under Random.

Gold 90.5FM is old. Bearing with it every morning is the price to pay for getting a lift from my Dad to school for my morning classes. And well, listening to Hamish Brown is a chore by itself, let alone listening to him crack jokes.

But sometimes, it throws up a few gems. And makes life all that much happier.

Desperate

Posted 4/04/08 22:30 by fang under Life.

Now, the following image needs a little explanation. Haha. So I saw that Wanlyn had a bad day because of a presentation, and so I messaged her. But she never did reply. After a while, I scanned my taskbar and I saw my name! Apparently she had a problem with sending me back a reply.

I think I just found my next pair of shoes!

Lovely details making it a pretty good pair for casual events. Love it! But then again, I wonder when I will actually go buy it. And for that matter, whether if it’s even available in Singapore now.

March Madness

Posted 2/04/08 2:37 by fang under Life, School.

Well, a busy March, although yep I think it went great personally. Despite science exploration and BP projects being utterly painful and bitter experiences. I never knew anyone could be worse than a certain infamous International Student I had the utter misfortune (to put it very, very, mildly) of working with twice.

But yep. March went great. Really well. Even if this post shows no hint of enthusiasm. None at all. None. None.

Fine, I’m just cranky. Busy last two weeks of the normal term. But what’s new, eh?

What’s new? Hmmm.

Freaked Out

Posted 1/04/08 9:48 by fang under Site.

Yes, I’m freaked out. Couldn’t log in just now to Wordpress. Panicked lah! Haha. Especially since I forgot to backup my posts like I told myself too. Have done so. Just realised my version of shoutbox was still the compromised version. I have no idea why though, because I thought I downloaded the latest one. Will check again tonight, with a new version of Wordpress too.

Of course, this is assuming my account was compromised due to hacking, and not someone who knows my password. I mean, if that happens, well, that’s really scary, ain’t it?

I just hope it’s an April’s Fools joke. :S

Edit: I just found a file planted into one of my directories, that allows access to my site contents. This is freaky. Bleah.
