Well, I’ve been having fun with Primary 4 kids. Well, not much fun actually. Went to Gan Eng Seng Primary as a Creative Thinking workshop trainer. Haha, David and I were assigned to two very different classes — the “best” and the “worst” class! Man, the school’s really crazy, although I do agree streaming at Primary 4 would help the kids academically. The “best” class were really full of kids who were excited over having to create something, and they come up with all sorts of different ideas. Well, some good and some bad. Haha, they were the very active sort, and you could see the few approval-seeking kids who kept volunteering to present, or to provide answers to questions. Haha, but EM1 being EM1 kids, I simply don’t like them. =) There’s this girl, who’s simply a pain in the arse! Haha. Everytime you went to her, and asked her to do something, or show us something, she would give a blank face and go “what?” Stupid smart alecks. These kids need to be disciplined! The hard way. Haha. These kids are really smart though, and you couldn’t fool them with all the puzzles that we showed them. Even if we were wrong. Well, luckily we changed the answer in time!
And then there’s the “worst” class. Haha, it was an absolute shock when we went in on Monday, and only 10 (out of 20) kids were present! A total shock! And we weren’t really sure of their academic capabilities, and we didn’t manage to present the stuff well, since they absolutely couldn’t comprehend our (actually David’s =) English. The form teacher was an extremely big help though (and the one from the other class is simply anal retentive). The kids, well, were quite a challenge. There a few really naughty kids who were all out to disrupt the class, but I guess that can’t be helped. There were two dyslexic kids, as well as a damn smart boy from China who only joined the school 2 weeks ago, damn bright but apparently due to administrative issues were put in this class. So damn sad lah! Most of the girls were the guai types who would really try to solve problems and help out. Haha. Well, except one. Haha, but she was simply just like the other naughty boys lah.
Anyway, teaching these kids were really fun. David and I took the liberty to remove lots of theoretical rubbish from the presentation slides, and adjusted our lesson plans accordingly. So all our lessons became huge fun! Haha, the primary school really expects too much for the kids lah. So we merely spoon-fed them but also engaging them in discussion and generation of creative ideas. I don’t know how much it’s really helping them, but I guess it’s fun! Haha, the satisfaction from teaching. =) Another two days more, and well, let’s be honest — I’m sure the kids will learn, but at least for this project, it’s all about the money. =)
