Team Dynamics

Convocation ended with a thank you dinner on Friday by OSL for all the helpers of VIVACE, FTB Camp, and of course Convocation. It marked the close of 4 months of hard work, and I guess I made everybody really happy with A4-printouts of “Here’s to Success”, as a memento to everyone. =) During this period, lots of things happened to the Frisbee team, and I have to admit, there was one point in time when I thought joining a club from ACF would be a good thing. After all I now have lots of contacts (haha) and it would be a continuation of my time from AJC AVA Club.
But the past few days have made me realised how much I love disc, and how much I wanted to challenge myself in sports. I guess now I also understand a lot more about team dynamics in a sports club, where everyone is a competitior, and everyone wants to win. People shout at each other on the field when things go wrong, but everyone accepts it as part of the game. Sports is a whole different thing from Interest clubs. As such, team dynamics are totally different, and as a leader how you handle situations are just as different. Damn, after the fiasco during my time as a SJAB officer, I’m still making mistakes now. I guess some stress is getting to me, and hence really unecessary conflicts with Gavin and Mark. And on another note, Jialing. Bleah. Lots to learn boy, lots to learn.
The stayover on Friday (when I got dunked into the pool by sissies) finally revealed all that was wrong with the club. I’ve been thinking about our problems, but I have to admit I’ve not been able to think about the key issues (perhaps because of Convocation?) Right now, the team is on a great morale high, with two really great training sessions back-to-back. I wonder how long will it last though? It’s still stupid that people are coming late for training, and Jiamin put it succinctly — “How many of the exco (bar me, actually) came on time?” Something that we will have to eliminate.
Oh yeah, my birthday was great. Haha, considering I don’t really care about birthdays. Honestly, the most number of times I’ve been greeted happy birthday. Haha. Altogether birthday songs recitals from Jasmine, 3 from Jayne, 2 from the Convocation team, and 1 from Frisbee. And I’ve got quality presents! A damn funny (really therapeutic) kung fu hamster by Jayne, and a lovely Picard wallet from Tofu and Coconut. Well, not enough. I want some more! =)
