Of Christmas and Holidays

Posted 27/10/07 17:32 by fang under Commentary.

Yep, it’s a little early to discuss Christmas (although if you’re thinking of getting me a present, a Liverpool jersey would be really sweet) but I was doing some research on Gap for my Advertising project when I discovered that Gap faced some flak last year for its Christmas Holiday advertising campaign.

You see, they decided to become politically correct, and avoided the use of the word “Christmas.” Wikipedia tells me this is termed “Christmas controversy.” =)

I would write in detail my views on the matter (and I’ve tried,) but I ain’t no writer. I just think it’s ridiculous to start politicising everything lah. America is a mess by itself, with all sorts of organisations fighting for all sorts of rights when in reality they are probably infringing on other people’s rights at the same time. Happy holidays? What’s the big effing deal!? Merry Christmas? What’s the big effing deal!? Can’t the world just let go of the small things, and celebrate the bigger picture?

Food for thought: try wishing someone in Malaysia/Indonesia a Merry Christmas.
