It has been a month of new stuff. Yep, due to my failing laptop which has no sound (later re-appearing after using the recovery cd -_-) and a ruined/non-functioning Firewire port (which meant I couldn’t use my external DVD-rom drive, needed for my recovery cd, which I managed to use in the end by borrowing a external USB-powered drive -_-) I decided to go get a new laptop. My choices were limited to two brands essentially — Acer and Fujitsu. I’ve just gotten too used to their keyboard layout, which I feel is absolutely brilliant! Basically the PgUp and PgDn buttons are above the left and right cursor keys, which is an absolute gem if you ask me. I went to have a look at Fujitsu laptops and I was mortified by how much flex (ie flimsy) the lid had when I opened/closed it.
So as luck would have it, for someone who’s proud of all the customisations he’s made to his laptop, phone and in his other design work, it’s kind of ironic that I’ve chosen to get a laptop from the school’s programme. Yes, I purchased the Acer Travelmate 6292, and probably sharing the same laptop as many SMU freshmen. Well, I simply couldn’t resist the good reviews online, and the lack of competition when it comes to size, looks and power. I would have gladly gone for a lighter laptop, but (as ridiculous as it sounds) the keyboard layout became the deciding factor.
One thing I liked about Acer laptops was that they came with a really nice leather laptop case. The great thing is that it looks great (duh! leather!) and it fits the laptop perfectly. Why, the only reason I’m mentioning this is that Acer didn’t give me any such case! Bloody hell! That only means I needed to go find a laptop case/sleeve. Perfect, because I laid on my eyes on a beauty of a laptop case roughly a month back. Haha! Let me introduce you to the Moshi Codex 13! It is easily the nicest laptop case I’ve ever seen, and unsurprisingly (because it looks damn cool) it’s custom-fitted for the Apple MacBook and only found in Apple stores in Singapore. The biggest problem though was that it costs $99, which easily makes it the costliest laptop case too. Haha. I brought my new laptop along last week and tried fitting it into the case — needless to say it fitted well enough. =)
It’s not the last of my latest toys though. I’ve long set my eyes on Optimash Prime, but have just been too lazy to buy it. Am so glad I did in the end because it’s damn frigging cute! Haha!
And in case you were wondering, yeah, I would love to take photos of my latest acquisitions. But my sister had to spoil the damn camera. Well done.
