Yesterday was a pretty wild day. Haha. Certainly one of the best in a while. Like, unadulterated fun lah. Haha. In the morning there was a field trip (excursion, if you will) to DDB Singapore as part of our advertising module. There was a tiny cockup of sorts, and Jorg (our prof) explained to us (David, Jasmine, Janice, Chunyong, Kallis and me) that DDB had wanted to cancel the trip the day before due to a last-minute need to use their auditorium to entertain some big-shot client. In the end, we had to stand for 2 hours straight in the porch (damn hot!). Also, the person originally in charge of the talk (Wendy) had to liase with the client, so she found a replacement in the form of their HR manager, Charles. Now Charles is gay, bubbly, and shocking. Why shocking?
Defining moment no. 1: He managed to address Jorg as “loverboy”.
Seriously, that was like, the biggest faux pas I’ve seen lah. I mean, you certainly wouldn’t want to say that to a 1.9m tall strapping German dressed up in corporate attire. Oh my. And everyone could tell Jorg was just pissed and thoroughly unimpressed by this Charles. Haha. Could tell that Charles is suited for the HR job, but I would never put him in charge of handling clients I tell you. Oh man. We spent the next hour or so listening to this guy basically telling us a little about DDB culture, as well as giving us rather invaluable tips into getting a job in the advertising industry. Every now and then, he somehow felt the need to address Jorg, by asking him things like “am I saying the correct things?” Jorg couldn’t take it and decided to shift to the back of the group of us (still standing) in an effort to get away from Charles. Funny shit haha.
Wendy joined us for the last hour to explain more in detail what the advertising industry is like, as well as how she worked from the ground up. Well, most heartening to know is that she was an Accounts graduate. Haha! Pretty insightful, although I don’t think Jorg got over Charles. The last 20 minutes or so was spent touring the DDB grounds, led by Charles as he introduced us to all his 姐妹们. Cringe-worthy and hilarious. Haha.
The afternoon went by quite uneventfully. There was an Ethics meeting which went by quickly (which reminds me, I better start on my part of the report) before I chilled at the BE studio. Finally, 7pm came and the lot of us, mostly BE members (me being the one who’s not haha) went o Marina Square for Kbox! It was really hilarious stuff, although to be honest we weren’t really high. Not at least until defining moment number 2.
Defining moment no. 2: MTV with Andy Lau in hot pants.
We couldn’t stop laughing lah. It was just so unbearable to watch! From then on things got much better, and I did my part (hey, I’ve got to earn brownie points if I want to continue using the studio!) After a solid 5 hours of singing, we couldn’t take it. We just played random English songs and sang along together. Haha. Chloe and David are idiots lah. They sang 珊瑚海 and they basically kept going higher and higher. Henceforth banned from singing together. Makes us sound really bad. Haha.
So that sums up a wonderful day. Can only hapen during Week 8. And week 16 if you think about it. Another 8 weeks then!
