Kicking Butt

What an awesome match. Haha. Liverpool started off very brightly, and I was impressed. Of course, half the time I was trying to figure out the formation, because what I saw on the field was different from the line-up pre-match reports stated. And when I finally figured that the pre-match reports were pure nonsense, Barcelona exploded into life.
It’s really scary when you see Ronaldinho, Messi, Saviola, Deco and Xavi as an attacking force. And for a period of 20 minutes (including their goal) they were amazing in attack, and would have scored more if not for some really desperate defending from Liverpool, led by who else but Carragher. That’s the difference between continental and British football — those Spanish lads used all sorts of feints and tricks to get past their defender, and Ronaldinho yet again showed some of his outrageous skills.
Credit to Liverpool then that they regained composure, and started to worry the really horrible Barca defence. All six of them, considering that the above-mentioned attacking force never ever came back to defend. I mean, they allowed Bellamy of all people free headers. The keeper was comical (and that’s being nice) and hardly convincing, and the lack of defensive numbers allowed Liverpool to cause serious problems whenever they were on the counter attack. And so we scored two goals!
On to the second leg then, when Anfield will provide yet another European special just for Barcelona. Aargh, can’t wait for the term to end. And then I’ll make a trip down to Queensway to get a jersey. Haha!
