Jap Dramas

Posted 14/11/07 2:22 by fang under Japanese Love.

I really love Japanese dramas. Haha, I really do. The Japanese sense of humour is both crazy and funny. My kind lah. And for their dramas you can’t help but like their pacing, especially for those fashioned in the style of mangas and anime. It helps that they tend to be really short (the norm being around 12 episodes?) and so they flesh out so much drama within a single episode, in order to move the plot along. Contrast this to Korean dramas, which are soaps after soaps, and I really hate how the craze for Korean dramas has meant that Jap dramas are kind of marginalised — no longer on TV, and no longer stocked in video stores. How sad!

Recently posters have been up announcing the arrival of HERO in movie theatres. Takuya Kimura! Haha. On the strength of pretty boy Takuya I would have gone to see the show anyway lah, but I decided to find out what the plot of the show was about. It turned out to be a sequel of the Jap drama series that I followed every single week, back in 2001! HERO! I really loved the show man! Haha. I remembered it as the one where the closing theme song was Utada Hikaru’s Can you keep a secret. And boy, I got really excited, especially when I found out that there was a TV special just a year ago. And so I’ve managed to download both the original series (some Singaporean guy uploaded it — you can see the channel 8 logo haha) as well as the special. I’ve already started seeing it, and well, it brings back really nice memories. It’s quite an experience, when you recall all the scenes in the drama as they are shown again. I really did watch every single episode back then. Haha.

Get the series from me in school lah, if you see me around. =)
