What a day. What a frigging eventful day! Haha. It’s boring to start things off in a chronological manner, but what the hell, it’s just being normal. =) Woke up at the awfully early time of 6.30am, so that I could meet Michelle, David and Chong Min to take a cab down to town — them to Suntec City for preparations while I went to SMU for my exam! Yeah, Xuan Ming, Shane and I had our exams earlier so that we could go Suntec, well, earlier to help our with the preperations. We all thought that we could probably finish the exams in around 2 hours (given the standard in his previous quizzes), and leave very early for Suntec. But Jeremy Goh had other ideas. He gave us the toughest shit that I’ve ever done! Horrid! It wasn’t like, crazily unfair or meant to fail us. But at least half the paper were extremely challenging/tricky questions, in which you either had two similar answers, or you had to think very thoroughly before you can find the correct answer. It was mental torture! Every 30 minutes or so, we’ll all burst out laughing (we were isolated in a GSR alone) at the sorry state that we were, comparing our individual progress with the paper. I came out of the GSR knowing that I thought I could answer quite a number of questions (given the horrible difficulty), although I’m not kidding when I say about 20 questions belong to the I-totally-don’t-have-a-clue or I-think-it’s-this-answer categories.
Anyway, off to Suntec we went, and I’m definitely unprepared for the role of usher. Haha. Lawrence gave me a quick 5 minute briefing despite his busy-ness, but it is telling when I kept asking questions about my role over the next 2 hours. No one seemed able to give me an answer, except Lawrence, who I especially did not want to disturb because he was busy. The irony. I mean, kancheong what, if I don’t know what’s my role, and at least there seemed to be lots of things I had to cover. Turned out that there wasn’t much that I needed to do. =) Or rather, things happened and made it that way, haha. I spent the majority of the time standing somewhere near the middle of the hall, getting cursed by freshmen whose views of the stage were blocked by a tall skinny guy (me). At least I got to enjoy the whole performance. Wonderful!
After the formal ceremony ended, everyone started getting high! The CIRCLE Awards was a huge, huge success! It started very nicely, with a photo montage of the freshmen, accompanied by JFM with an acoustic performance. The band was inconspicuous at first, until Jason started off an amazing rendition of Quando Quando Quando! It was beautiful! And it totally set the mood of the montage, everyone enjoying the music (which I shall emphasise again, was heavenly) while watching all the funny and memorable things that happened during the FTB Camp. It was the sweet, sweet atmosphere that everyone just loves. Haha. Then suddenly, Heyuan’s spoof video came out and led to the opening of the CIRCLE Awards! Haha, by then the crowd was hyped up about the whole thing, cheering at every nonsensical thing the emcees were bantering about. Performances by E-mix and Caderas came up, the latter of which were very good, and then a Jazz performance by Jazz Trio. In my opinion, this was the only part of the whole Awards that the flow wasn’t perfect (it was that damn good!), but only because it dragged too long.
More awards came up, and the show ended with Hey B.I.Am! Haha, SMUBE’s very own band, and I guess the non-BE members in the Convocation Team have already adopted BE as our very own. Haha. Their performance were paced much faster than the others and was a great way to end things. You could see everyone moving along to the beat, and that included us! Haha. A few of us went ballistic, and we went upstage to make a fool of ourselves. Haha. Everyone in the team were very hyped up and glad that the whole event was over lah. Brilliant!
After the event ended, we all started helping to pack stuff and everything, and you could see all the tired but happy faces. Haha. It was really a wonderful sight, and everyone congratulating and thanking everyone for all the effort put in. The whole of Suntec was filled with endorphines! We celebrated Terence’s belated birthday, before heading back to school to help Fortuna with Logistics. We did some really stupid things, such as me pushing Jayne and Michelle on a trolley all around school, doing all sorts of stunts and S-courses and getting them screaming away. Haha. And then David did the same thing while I hopped on along with them. Wa lau it was damn fun lah! Damn fun! Bloody hell, they were enjoying themselves! Haha. Along the way, we conveniently took home the new Student’s Handbook (with my face on it =) as well as SMU collar pins! Those freshmen had a pin each, which were actually meant for our batch of students! Bloody hell. Haha. Man, Convocation 2006 is by any standards a huge success. Makes me think about whether I want to help next year again. Haha.
Thank you all for everything!
