18 Minutes

Posted 19/07/08 21:24 by fang under Life.

For 18 minutes this morning, I only had one thought in my mind: how stupid a decision it was to go for sports camp frisbee clinics, just two days before IPPT.

Yeah, I did 18 minutes for my 2.4km. Haha. I was so shacked out and the moment I started running I knew it was a futile effort. There was absolutely no way I could keep running for the entirety of the run. Yeah, the problems you have when you’re not fit haha.

The good thing is I don’t need to take RT. And so here’s to a year of training for the next IPPT. Haha.

Mr Bandanamana

One very bored day, I took out one of my T-shirts, redid the superhero character on it in Photoshop, and here’s the result:

If for some reason you want this as your wallpaper (as I did,) I guess you could drop me a message and I will deliver it via e-mail/MSN. Heh.

I Swear By Lubricant

Posted 11/07/08 19:22 by fang under Life.

What a pain. Man, it hurts lah. Spending hours and hours cutting out all the darn pieces, shaving off the excess plastic, and then when it comes to assembling the figures, what happens? They friggin break. Yes. All thanks to my not-so-dexterous fingers. I should have learned right, especially when I gave my first Stikfas figure dismembered legs months ago.

Yeah, I took that many shots of it when it broke. After being abused throughout the term as I brought it along to my Advertising project meetings, its joints went loose and I took it apart for repairs. First sign of clumsiness.

Anyway, this new batch of Stikfas figures are equally a bitch. I have a figure whose joints don’t fit properly — when I rotate at a certain angle it just pops out. Fragile. As for some of the other figures, their joints were so tight, it just didn’t feel right. In fact, I couldn’t move it freely. I wisely stopped trying after two accidents:

I should have taken pictures of the mangled mess, but instead here’s the chest pieces with a missing joint. Bleah. But this is where lubricant comes in. I am so damn glad I have spares for the chest pieces, and this time I used some good old Singer Oil to lubricate the stubborn joints, and they worked. With a squeak, but I can live with that. Man, I was so pissed at first. At least now, I have all my figures completed, and functional. I’m left with the rock band instruments. =)

Stikfas: Yummy

It would have been really really cool, had I taken a photo of all the model pieces while they were still attached to the frame. But yeah, I only thought of that now. Haha. Maybe I should just take five minutes to do just that, right now. Introducing the Rock Band set.

Pic: Stikfas Rock Band Set

As you can see, the Rock Band set has lots and lots of goodies. Which means a real pain to cut and assemble. I could live with that I guess.

Wonder how it all started? Well, I got conned by David into getting my first Stikfas figures: a Classic Alpha Male Military Pack and two Classic Alpha Males (red and white) at a ridiculously cheap price of $10 from a bazaar at SMU. Later, I bought a Stegosaurus (an absolute pain to assemble, and also my favourite dinosaur haha) and just recently I bought the Rock Band set and then two more figures, a blue and a lime green one. I reckoned that I might as well get them now, since Suntec City (Toy Room sells them cheap) is a pain to walk to. Haha.

So what happens when you have new Stikfas figures? Well, you assemble, and then you take more photos. Watch out for that. =)

Web Design

Posted 8/07/08 13:10 by fang under Life.

And so in this super free few months in between terms, the only semblance of productive work now comes in the form of a design job for a local law firm. A really simple website (unfortunately) which means I can’t charge too much. Haha. But yeah, I’ll take whatever comes now. Besides, it is good money. Although that said, I still have to produce some sample designs which the boss will like.

Now that shouldn’t be a problem, right?

A consequence of thinking about designing is thinking about redesigning this site. Haha. I saw something really cool the other day, and I thought I could probably do it here. The thing is, it’s pretty geeky, and I don’t like to exude geekiness. That said, merely changing the site layout to different colours, different styles doesn’t give me a thrill any more. If I’m going to change anything, it better be radical. You can blame that on how fun experimenting with jQuery was on my portfolio. Still, I need to prioritise. Money first, play later. The new term is still many many weeks away.

Stoning Around

Posted 22/06/08 11:25 by fang under Life.

Today, to commemorate the first time in a very long while I volunteered to wake up early (if you even consider 9am early) I’ve decided to finally post here. After all I do need a post at least every month. If I don’t do that, there will be drastic consequences. Hey, all I’m trying to do here is to save the world.

So in chronological order of the many, many issues I want to write about, here it goes:

I got an A grade (as opposed to the mean of B-) for Advanced Financial Accounting, i.e. what many accounting undergraduates define as the most technically difficult module ever. So difficult, a often-heard strategy is to go for local exchange at NTU just so as to take the equivalent module there, just so that your GPA will not get affected.

Please don’t take me wrongly, for I’m not gloating here. After all I got a B- for the easiest module in SMU (Leadership and Team-Building.) Rather, I’m really glad that hard work does pay off sometimes in SMU (heh) and well I do need the As to roll in in order to save my GPA. And currently I don’t have latin words on my transcript.

But all that effort has been wasted when I totally screwed AMA. I nearly failed the exam and ended with a final grade of B-. Haha. SMU life is killing me. Haha. The great thing was that my group project got an A grade, something that David, Chong Min and I are really proud of considering we literally had only 2 weeks to prepare for it. Talk about crisis management.

So the past two weeks after exams have been spent bumming around at home. Gone out a number of times for dinner with friends, but well to be honest I’ve just been stoning around at home. I tried play FM2008 but I totally suck at it. And then I decided to play some GBA games. Mario Tennis is really great but short, while Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga only made me want to buy a Wii even more. Haha.

I’ve exhausted most gaming options, so it came as a really pleasant surprise when I received an invite to Beta test Football Manager Live! This means I get to play it for free! For around one month I guess. Haha. I really do want to subscribe once the full version launches, but it really depends on how much it’s going to cost. It’s not in USD guys, it’s in GBP. Ouch.

I’ve decided (at least at this point in time) to apply for this marketing internship on OnTrac. I’ve already more or less given up hope on any career in marketing since I couldn’t secure a good marketing internship in the summer, but this internship will really help kill time. All 8 weeks of it till school starts. Sustained bumming around is pretty hard I tell you. But I still wouldn’t take up an internship if it isn’t any good. And from the detailed job description and requirements, it seems at least that the company is serious about getting an intern, and not just a saikang warrior to do miscellaneous stuff. And of course there’s the pretty decent internship allowance. =)

Two more semesters to school. I still have to decide if I want to continue my marketing major, or simply drop it and thus two modules. Decisions, decisions.

Life.

The Post Exams To-Do List

Posted 24/05/08 20:20 by fang under Site.

Yep, the stuff I want to change and do on this site once my mod term is over.

  1. Add an asides for random links (since I have so many of them anyway)
  2. Add a fancy flash media player on the site!
  3. Superspeed up the site and my portfolio (ie cut down loading times)
  4. Liverpool kits gallery version 2!
  5. Make some coding changes to Facebook status plugin

And since I’m totally not in the mood to do anything related to exams today, maybe I’ll start on one of them right now. =)

Religion and Relationships

Ever broke up with anyone because of religious differences?

My ex-boyfriend and I split up over religious differences. He thought he was God and I didn’t.

The Cursed Week 13

Posted 22/05/08 18:22 by fang under Life, School, Unused.

Yep, Week 13 is here. And my problems aren’t just the AFA and AMA reports, half of which was finally submitted over an hour ago. Man, it has been such a bad week, with highs and lows fluctuating like mad. I went into the week with high hopes, soon got into despair, and now I’m just plain tired. Life sure wants to take you for a ride.

All I can do now is to pick myself up, get mod term done and over with, and enjoy the 10 weeks of holidays before yet another school term starts.
